ER5183 is with nearly 5% magnesium and some of manganese. And this product is of high toughness, good forgeability, and well anti-corrosiveness, Furthermore, this is a good choice for color-match in welding after anodic process. But for some alloy, the strength of welding joint is a little higher than 5356.
The model 5183 do not suggested to use in aluminium alloy workpiece which working temperature is over 65º C, thus will cause corrosion cracking in welded joints. You should strictly clean the oxide film on the edge of the workpiece and oil before welding, otherwise it will make bad weld produce and cause porosity, slag inclusion and other defects. Also you can use a plate to hold molten metal to ensure meld form.
The strength of ER5183 is higher than ER5356, which used in high strength situation, especially for crack after welding with other brand or other type aluminium welding wires.
